I enjoy meeting and supporting fellow artists, so when we travel I always try to connect with a local artist in their studio. Vancouvers rich art scene made for many choices, but knowing that I wanted to visit a potter definitely narrowed the field. An article titled ‘Vancouvers 10 best Potters’ from an art publication helped. I scanned each potters work and info, easily narrowed my choice to Amelia Nadine Butcher. She is a cartoonist turned potter-I love that! Cartooning is a highly acquired skill, a few well thought brush gestures to convey emotions and body language. Not easy, but Amelia has the talent.
She dabbles in drawings of Alewives lore on her pots. So interesting. We missed her pop up show by a day, but Amelia indulged us and we met her at her working studio near downtown. I got a couple of photos, shared an interesting, engaging conversation, and knew immediately Amelia is a quality person.
It is always life expanding to connect with a fellow artist, the energy multiplies!
Art is a way of being.
The button below is her website, and her Instagram page showcases current pieces.
I know we’ll treasure the pottery we purchased.
hope one day to visit you at the Archie Bray!
