The Art Spirit
The Art Spirit manifested herself on our recent adventure. Cruising the Inner Passage of Alaska (glacier filled!), railroad trip to Denali National Park/World Heritage Site and chalet stay, then six days and nights exploring the beautiful island of Vancouver. And of course 2 days and a night in Victoria.
I prepared an origami styled journal base before we left. I then filled it with small on site sketches and watercolors and writings, haiku and ramblings. Also daily highlights .
Such a delight to draw, sketch, paint our experiences. I focused on countour drawings of the glaciers, and used a limited palette of blues.
The Art Spirit renews. The Art Spirit nourishes.
“When we're stuck in our work we can remember the power of forward movement. Whether we move to something else we're working on, jump into some sketchbook play, or take a refreshing break, that choice to not linger in our stuck-ness is where our creative energy revives itself.”
Traditional Sun Parka
Three Iñupiat women wearing traditional long parkas. The woman in the centre has qupak trim, a traditional geometric style, around her hem. Seattle, 1911.
One of my favorite photos from our cruise through the Inner Passage of Alaska and two day rail road trip into Denali National Park and World Heritage Center. More to come!
As a working artist/retired art educator, I've always lived the artful life. Let's share!
