“Art doesn’t have to do anything. It just has to be there for the fierce pleasure we take in doing it.”
My gifting this past holiday season to those close to me in my life centered on sharing time together. The Christmas gift I gave to some dear, long time friends was an afternoon in my art studio. It was a 'mini' art workshop. I chose a date in March-far enough out that we could look forward to a relaxing, fun time during a somewhat bleak month. I printed a save the date 'invite', and gave that as the gift.
We had a great afternoon making art and memories together.
And, of course, talking about many memories we had made together over the years!
“When we walk like (we are rushing), we print anxiety and sorrow on the earth.
We have to walk in a way that we only print peace and serenity on the earth…
Be aware of the contact between your feet and the earth.
Walk as if you are kissing the earth with your feet.”
~ Thich Nhat Hanh
This is the piece I gave to my good friend. He embodies the connection of self and earth.
