WEIGHTLESS
As a daily walk taker, I'm always delighted and amazed how beautiful the act of walking is. Touching the earth with our feet, feeling the connection, and yet at the same time letting go of distractions, each step increases insight and joy in life. Meditative walking is stepping in the direction of life--the present moment.
Mindful Art. I often ponder on how to best let go of earthly weights and burdens, and meld both our inner and outer selves so they act as one entity. I began this series to help me visually communicate these thoughts through symbols.
Earth elements are integral to us, and I marvel at how I often return to air and water (fish and moon moths) for painting subjects. They symbolize inner and outer self in my painting. And I often include rocks or the nuance of rocks - in compositions. I find them centering and grounding, just as my walks.
And here is the juxtaposition:
grounding, centering walks on the earth can lead us to the sense of weightlessness of water and air.

Wings-Tattered and Torn
Embrace your flaws. You may become weathered and worn, tattered and torn, battered and bruised but you are not broken. Know that you’ve become perfectly imperfect. -J Long
When our lives overlap with other's lives, or our own inner and outer lives overlap, it opens a space to act in love. I am reminded when I see this space that we have the capacity to be compassionate, kind and aware that we should tread lightly. Let us try to fill this new space with thoughts and actions that are born out of love. Thankful we can have moments of strength and deliberate thought to continue our flights with imperfect wings. I reflect on how powerful art is in communicating and wish for us all the power of embracing love.

Acrylic, gold leaf. 10"x10"x2.5", cradled birch.
The finish is glazed/gloss, with matte chalk overpaint sections.
Inside Out
Connecting to the balm that is our center takes tenderness.
We might need to turn ourselves inside out, to give light to dark.
Do this gently.
Then take a deep look, that is where the nuances live that create the whole. The soft, muted texture, shine and matte will guide us.
I’m thinking of those of us who need
courage to search intentions
in our lives, and send out in this painting soothing, healing light.
