on the materiality of eggshells

11/25/2014

A perfect form,
A perfect food,
Spirit and self.
Eggshells, a perfect cover for life.

And even as they are a part of
everyday life,
Eggshells symbolize
Fragility of life,
Birth and death.

The shattering and reforming
of fragments

Inside/outside
Up/down
Side•by•side

Eggshells rupture and recreate to a new
meaning,
A gesture of profound spirit-
A joyful spirit.

Go Grizzzzzzz!

Sometimes the easiest of projects are not what they seem.
Griz Week at work, so I thought a U of M t-shirt scarf would be a fun thing to sew. SHOCK! There were only 2 griz shirts in the 5 second hand stores I checked out on  Friday after work and Saturday. Had to beg my son for his cast offs. Then my Serger didn't work. I tried to schedule lesson, no go!
Hope to the rescue! Hope, my new friend at work, heroically tried to thread my machine, once again, no go! Hope graciously took my pinned scarf home and did the serging for me. Thanks again, Hope! Love it!

I've loved this

"To live content with small means; to seek elegance rather than luxury, and refinement rather than fashion, to be worthy, not respectable, and wealthy, not rich; to study hard, think quietly, talk gently, act frankly, to listen to stars and birds, to babes and sages, with open heart, to bear all cheerfully, to all bravely await occasions, hurry never. In a word, to let the spiritual unbidden and unconscious grow up through the common. This is to be my symphony."

William Henry Channing (1810-1884)

For some reason I REALLY wanted our porch to be welcoming with a late fall/early winter look. The ivory in the birch , and natural textures fit the bill!

The image is in honor of my mother. Her parish, St. Pius X held a memorial mass for the parishioners who pass on this last year. My husband and Auntie went. The piece is for the church scrapbook. I'm sure mom would have loved
it! Dottie's favorite symbol was the butterfly. Her jewelry collection was mainly butterfly motif!
